Noticed Alans car appeared very slow last week, checked out the battery he was running (3900ma) and noticed it was only delivering 5.4volts when running under load.(all our other batteries deliver 7.5v under load) I suspect one of the cells has failed, has anyone ever replaced a faulty cell with a new one? in a pack, just wondering what are the implications when charging. Lotus.

Yea, I have three car headlight bulbs and use these to run down the used batteries (similar load to a motor) when they get really low I swap them to a discharger which equalizes the cells, and then charge them at 3 amps. Been working fine till now. Lotus.

Are they stick packs or ladder ?
in other words
do they look like this
===

or this
=
=
=

Discharging them too low will put them into reverse polarity and wreck them.
If they are lader type there is no real problem changing one cell ;)

Thanks for the reply Gav, I may be wrong but I think the Novac will only work on ladder packs? I have a discharger but its very slow and it discharges the whole pack to 5.4volts, not ideal!
