LiPo Batteries V Ni-MH Batteries
Advantages for either your views on them ,
Anyone running LiPo what u think of them...
Do u need different chargers for each type?
If u had a choice which would u run .....

Power,duration and no memory is the big advantage.I know mick bolger has ran them in b4.You need to add weight to the car because the li-po are lighter.I cant wait till there are made legal.One pack for a whole days racing!

When u say add weight, is that too balance the car or is it for a rule that your car has too be a certain weight?
Are they not legal too run in Irish championship or is that abroad races?

You have to add weight to bring your car up to the minimum specified weight.
But you will have to adjust to balance weight left to right also.
Not sure about legality yet
BUT
Remember.
Most of these packs are soft which can result in them being damaged to the extent of being useless in a crash.
On the other hand
You could get something like This
Venom Racing have raised the bar with their new custom built r/c car LiPo race packs. Enclosed in a specially designed moulded case for protection of the cells, they feature heavy duty 12awg wire as well as balance and deans style connector. This particular pack is a 7.4V 20C 5000mAh version that has a charge rate of 5 amps (1C) and a discharge rate of 100amps while the maximum pack voltage is 8.4V.
And yes
you do need a special charger and as far as I know you will also need a blaancer
I have considered the change to Lipo this year for Nick :wink:

What is the minimum specified weight??
Was looking at the Reedy ones there on the CML site they look the job ....

I will probably be corrected in this but this is the only thing I can find regarding the weight.
This is taken from the 2007 BRCA HandBook >> GET IT HERE << ;)
8.7 The minimum weight, including personal
transponders but not handout transponders:
4WD 6-cell = 1500g (3lb 5oz), 4WD 5-cell =
1350g, 4WD 4-cell = 1350g, Front wheel
drive/2WD = 1400g (3lb 1oz).

I've been running a pack of Orion Carbon 3200 during the winter in Navan.
I had to add about 100grms to the car for two reasons.
1 bring it up to legal weight.
2 keep the same 'balance' in the car.
Over all I'm happy with the lipo. I'm sure that I'll pick up a set of the Reedy Lipo when CML have them in stock.

The 3200 are alot lighter then the 5000 too so i guess the 3200 be better an overall a better balance car ...
