I've been wondering how many of our club members work on their own cars, or do they leave them alone once they get used to the way they handle? Did Nick & Eugene make changes during the Lucan event? Connor John, Gavin? Did Mick or any of the visiting drivers from other clubs make changes when they came to Fermoy? Or is it once you get a good setup for your car it will work anywhere you go? The RC clubs in Ireland need each other, Lucan would have had only 16 entries if FMCC members hadn’t attended, the Munster GP would have been a sorry event if the other clubs hadn’t supported it. If this is the future then our club will be represented by those of us who travel to these events. It looks to me that the standard in our club is Nick-A the rest of us B-C-D with the a lot in B, that’s assuming the drivers we’ve seen so far are a fair representation of the standard of RC drivers in this country, or do the drivers who usually only make the C-D finals decide it not worth making the trip? What do our drivers need to enable more of them to make the A-B finals? It’s my experience in Karting that driving ability only got you so far; you had to have the machinery and the ability to set it up for different tracks and conditions. I suspect this is the same in RC racing. I've only been a member of this club since early Summer, but since I've stumbled on RC racing I've got to see what a great sport this is, I've see the positive effect its had on my son, and would like to see the future of the sport consolidated so the positive effect on my son can continue for years to come. All the best for 2008.....Lets hope it’s a good one! :D

I check the settings weekly and adjust anything that may have moved but leave them as they are during championships.
During practice nights I wil try one or two slightly different settings to see how his car goeas and how he gets on with the changes

No,
I asked Nick how his car was and he said to leave it as it is more getting used to racing on different surface than anything else.
I did change the gearing twice during the day and did notice his lap times drop.

Mick didnt race but I would say the most of the other lads (Derek Alan, Andrew Johnny etc ) did tinker with settings.
I know they tried different tyre setups and different additives to get the max grip available.

True,
But I would hope that we showed a bigger interest in travelling around this year from Most members.
Remember, we did our club proud in Lucan
If we had more of our members at it then who konws? we could have done better again and give the lucan Lads something to fight back for next time. Isnt that what it is all about?

Well to be fair,
I can only agree that Nick seems to top the time sheets all the time but I do feel there are others out there in our club well capable of giving him a good run for it as well. I think if those members showed a bit of interest in their cars and setups and above all THEIR DRIVING STYLE...!! they would enjoy this sport a lot more as they would be doing a lot better.
Remember one thing. YOU CANNOT BUY LAPTIMES You can buy the best chassis..best batteries etc.. but .. there is no substitute for good driving. Each crash on a lap is several seconds lost. crash every second lap over 5 minute race and not you have probably at least a lap down. Add that to bad driving style and you are 3 or more laps down.
I say. KEEP IT TIDY AND YOU WILL IMPROVE..!!Practice....Practice.. and Practice

I dont need to add anything to that comment. You have summed it up yourself pretty well. 8)

Hi Kieran

I got Eugene to set up my chassis a few months ago when he gave it back to me i took measurements and wrote down the settings i check these every week or two to make sure everything is in check

I made a small few changes to my chassis since like shock oil ,gearing, and i also changed the chassis from carbon composite to carbon fibre  :D

I do general maintence every week like cleaning and oiling bearings and tightning screws but i usually dont change my set up as i am very happy with it

The only changes i made in lucan was tyre compounds

i hope to do a lot more travelling to events this year (both off and on road) :D
I think there would have been a lot more people travel to lucan from our club but the date didnt suit  :?

As for having the best machinary My car was designed 7 years ogo i think and my dads was designed in 1999 but they didnt shape up badly to the newer serprents and schumachers i think a lot of it is down to set up , the electrics and of course the driver

Happy new year

Hi lotus. This is the first time i see this post.
My pc was sick and did not have it all over x mas.
As for nick is the standard in our club is just not true (no disrep... to nick he is a top class driver) but you got to remember for the last 3 years its between me and nick :?  Then pat h came on the seen then pat k and now its all good fun,Thats why there is class A,B,C..If you were to come in as class A ,First time out you would prop..take one of us out ,thats why there is class B & C the pc have all your times the better you do ,then you go up a class..As you know i kicked ass last wed. night because the other lads had probs.. thats the way it goes in rc racing  Pat h might do better ,nick might , I might but putting it down to one person as to set the standard I  dont think so .we are all part of a team.FMCC team.
If it was not for vectra and John Fenton and the rest of the members there would be no club

Now I`m in the club since day one,but things have changed a bit since day one ,Thank god   Vectra dose a shit load of work for the club and John Fenton has the track and dose much more.without them it`s all over  :(  simple as that..   Thats my opion on the matter..Roll on next wed..night...see yea all there.
