Hi All,

From the subject and the attached images you will see what this is about. Through the http://www.dublinmodelracing.com website we got an invitation to put on a race at the Sligo section of Rally Ireland 2009.

I attended the media launch for this yesterday, Wednesday 29th in the Glasshouse Hotel in Sligo at the invitation of Martin Donnelly, Regional Tourism Development Officer, Failte Ireland North West Region.  As  nearly all those involved in organising this project would be there, Martin felt it would be an ideal opportunity for someone  from the R/C world to come and explain our sport. I brought a hand held video player and showed stills and video clips of on and off road cars, both IC and electric to anybody who wanted to see them.

The launch was addressed by a series of speakers, Minister of State, Dr. Jimmy Devins T.D. and Cllr. Jude Devins, Deputy Mayor of Sligo being the main speakers, the other speakers at the launch, whom I met and spoke to about what we propose to do were, Paschal Mooney, Chairman, Failte Ireland North West, Brian Smart, Director, DCAL Events Unit (N. Ireland), Cllr. Deirdre Healy-McGowan, Chairperson, Sligo Rally Festival Organising Committee, I met and spoke to several other people whose names I don't have to hand at the time of writing this (ok then, I forgot, that's because I am getting doddery), all the responses were positive. Martin brought me out with Andrew Skeffington from Sligo County Council to have a look at possible sites for racing, the attached photographs are of the 3 most likely ones. The one at Sligo Rovers will be tarmacked and is being got ready for that, hence the rough look of the area.

I agreed to run racing at this event on Saturday 29th January 2009, depending on the response to this, it can be a small event with a bare minimum of drivers or if there is a big response then it can be a big meeting covering all aspects of what we do.

So that I can judge the level of interest I need people who get this from whatever source to respond and let me know their interest, saying what class they run and with which club.

I don't have a contact for the Enniskillen club or the Longford club so if anybody has a contact, please pass this on to them or send me the contact, e-mail or snail mail, it doesn't really matter as long as the message gets through, also pass this on to anybody you think might be interested, the more the merrier, better that people should hear about this from several sources than not at all. Rumour has it that there is an R/C club in Donegal, does anybody know them ?, if so please let them know or put them in touch with me.

I have asked that this be put on the agenda of the RCCAOI Annual General Meeting on 16th November, when we have gauged the level of interest we can convene a special meeting to organise this event. THIS IS A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO SHOWCASE OUR SPORT AND HAVE A GREAT DAY OUT AS WELL, LET'S NOT MISS OUT, ALL WELCOME, THIS IS MEANT TO INCLUDE ALL INTERESTED R/C RACERS WHO WANT TO TAKE PART.

Thanks,

Dave Bolger

This will probably be the decider if this goes ahead or not, depending on numbers. The purpose of the meeting is to decide track layout, go through who's going and whats needed.

Directions here http://www.dublinmodelracing.com/off_road.htm

Regards,
Colm Gaffney
